      Graphic Design Program Faculty

      The faculty at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh – Online Division are chosen for their ability to prepare our students for their career pursuits in the real world. All of our faculty attend orientation to learn the best practices for online learning so they have the skills and knowledge to support adult learner success in our online classrooms.

      Mr. David Lyons

      Mr. Lyons received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts from Loyola University Chicago and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Graphics from the University of Wisconsin - fMadison.  He worked as an exhibit designer producing exhibits for Charles Schulz and Peanuts and the Minneapolis Public School system. He served as a lecturer of Graphic Design for the University of Wisconsin Stout before accepting a full-time teaching position with The Art Institute of Pittsburgh – Online Division. 

      Ms. Sylvia Shapiro

      Ms. Shapiro earned a BA in Art from Cal State Northridge, a BFA in Illustration from Art Center College of Design, an MA in Illustration from Syracuse University, and an MFA in Illustration from The University of Hartford. She worked on staff as an illustrator and graphic designer for Hallmark Cards, Mattel Toys, Walter Dorwin Teague, and Edmark, and freelanced for various publishers illustrating children’s' books and book covers.  She has extensive experience as a product designer working for Walt Disney, Mattel, Hasbro, Fisher-Price, Tyco, Galoob, and Lanard Toys. Before accepting a full time teaching position with The Art Institute of Pittsburgh - Online Division, Sylvia taught part time and full time at The Art Institute of Seattle. She is a member of The Society of Illustrators.

      Dr. Dusty Crocker

      For over twenty-five years, Dr. Crocker has worked as a freelance designer, photographer, illustrator and multimedia developer for many large and small clients, and he served as Creative Director of his own firm for most of those years. A few years ago he began conducting workshops on graphic design and graphic arts software throughout the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom. He is currently a full time lead faculty member for The Art Institute of Pittsburgh - Online Division.

      Ms. Elizabeth Tilak

      Ms. Tilak earned her MFA in Graphic Design from West Virginia University and completed her undergraduate studies at The National Institute of Design and the Sir J.J. School of Art, India. She is a graphic designer who has crossed disciplines and borders in a successful international career spanning twenty-five years. Her professional experience includes Creative Director in a leading advertising agency in the Sultanate of Oman, Creative Head for the Publicity Department of one of the largest Indian corporations and Principal of her own design studio specializing in corporate and brand identities for multinational companies. Her teaching experience includes developing and setting up a new graphic design program at Cameron University, Oklahoma.
