Kitchen & Bath Design Program Faculty

The faculty at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh – Online Division are chosen for their ability to prepare our students for their career pursuits in the real world. All of our faculty attend orientation to learn the best practices for online learning so they have the skills and knowledge to support adult learner success in our online classrooms.

      Lauren Liebler

Lauren obtained her Master of Architecture as well as her Bachelor of Interior Architecture from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, MI. Having worked in the design field for over twelve years, Lauren’s experience spans a variety of venues, including kitchen design focusing on custom designed cabinetry. She has also worked in a variety of architectural offices and acted as a Project Manager for the winner of the Michigan American Institute of Architects (AIA) Firm of the Year award during her time there.

Lauren’s passion for sustainability led her to become an accredited professional in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. The organization has set the pace for “green” architecture and design and provides a platform for clients, contractors, and designers. Guiding students in making sustainable selections for their assignments is one of the many strengths she brings to the classroom.

As full time faculty for the Kitchen and Bath Design program, Lauren serves as the Internship Coordinator and is currently studying to take the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) exam.

      Dawn Viola

Dawn is a Certified Kitchen and Bath Educator (CKE, CBE) through the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) and has over twenty years design experience. She holds advanced degrees in Architecture and Construction Management from the University of Colorado and Colorado State University.

Her dedication to lifelong learning has led her to pursue a doctoral candidacy at Argosy University. She is currently researching ways help students design modern kitchens to fit contextually within historic structures.

Dawn has been teaching online for over five years and she is passionate about sharing her love for Kitchen and Bath design with her students. She has worked in the past with several students that have won national recognition in the annual NKBA student design competition and continues to guide our students at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh — Online Division to a strong showing each year.

      Marica Paljakka-Cargo, CKD

Marica has over 14 years of experience in the Kitchen and Bath design field. Marica is a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD), and has a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from Indiana State University.

Marica keeps up with her continuing education by attending NKBA professional seminars, local chapter meetings and tradeshows. As an advocate of the annual Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), Marica arranges to meet with her students during this annual event. Marica believes that the world of teaching is constantly evolving and to be a great teacher, you have to be a great student.
